Project Stem
Ms. Jeanie
AP Computer Science
In our computer science class this year, we have primarily done our learning through project stem. Project Stem has allowed us to Learn code at our own pace and has been super useful. The format of the website has the students read an article about binary structures or user input status, then they will have us answer a few questions before sending us to the website scratch.com, we will then implement whatever it was into a game or whatever we were previously coding, we will then have 5-10 questions quiz and move on to the next unit. Applying the information we just used in 3 separate ways allows it to be easily memorized and in my opinion is a very effective way to teach code. This Project did a very good job at using my 21st century skills, is used intrapersonal skills as coding is largely based on making sure other people can understand and we have done a lot of collaborative work in that class. The next 21st century skill this project used was media and literacy, we live in a world structured around computer software and i believe understanding that is the keystone to success. This project also helped my self directional skills as at times coding can be very convoluted and boring so it takes a lot of effort to focus for long periods of time. Finally project stem has helped me with my critical thinking skills, coding and binary are both very difficult to understand making me use my critical thinking skills almost always. I really enjoy working in this class and have learned a lot about the structure of code.
